March highlights in Mexico
As February’s unpredictable weather (enshrined in the Mexican saying Febrero loco…) gives way to the windy days of March, temperatures across Mexico are beginning to warm up, and already the purple flowers of the Jacaranda trees are beginning to bloom: a sure sign that spring is on the way. Springtime in Mexico begins on or around March 21. This article describes what you can typically expect from the weather this time of year.
The Monarch butterflies begin to leave their winter habitat this month; if they’re still on your bucket list they’ll be back in November. It’s a good time of year to consider planning a journey on the Copper Canyon train.
The third Monday in March commemorates Benito Juarez with another long-weekend holiday, and the clocks move forward this month in places across northern Mexico, whereas most of the country will move its clocks forward on the first Sunday in April.
Mexico’s gradual and phased reopening
Mexico continues to undergo a phased reopening of its economic, cultural, educational, and social activities. Each region and municipality is implementing a custom reopening plan based on a color-coded ‘traffic light’ system so the restrictions vary depending on each region and/or locality. Covid updates

Mexico’s clock-time changes in 2021: Twenty-five years ago, Mexico started to move its clocks in the spring and the fall. The daylight ‘savings’ argument is moot, as Mexico gets plenty of daylight year-round, although people have become accustomed to enjoying ‘lighter evenings’ in the spring and summer.
